Can i start ballet classes now?iam 15!!?

i used to go to ballet classes when i was i little girl but i left them at age 6 or 7 ...but can i take them back now?!!iam 15!!

Can i start ballet classes now?iam 15!!?concert venue

sure you can... though the chances of your becoming a professional are very slim, any person of any age can enjoy dancing, and 15's perfectly fine.

Can i start ballet classes now?iam 15!!?events opera theater

You can go into ballet at any age, really. As long as your legs are fine, I don't see why not. It may take awhile for your body to get used to it again but if it's something you enjoy, you should go for it.
Its never too late, and you could still become a professional if you worked hard. Don't listen to people who tell you otherwise.
Sure, but your chances of becoming a professional ballet dancer are between slim and none.... If you have a TON of talent, have a great school and teachers, total determination, and a lot of luck, you might get to professional standards by age 19...competition between female dancers is ferocious - be prepared. If you have no professional ambitions, enjoy your classes and the chances to perform in front of an audience. You will set the pattern of being fit for life
sure but it might be hard to get bak into the swing of things like all the french terms like tondu plie tombe good luck
It doesnt really matter what age you are. The real question is how much your body can handle. Your age has almost nothing to do with it. your strength and willingness to do something matter. Remember ballet is really staining and competative. So go for it if you want to! good luck

happy dancing

How to find ballet models?

Im a photographer in Memphis and have wanted to do a series of ballet photos for about a year now. Most of the studios have there own photographer and allow no one else in.

How to find ballet models?performing shows

Try posting an ad on Craigslist (the Memphis one is here: http://memphis.craigslist.org/) under "creative"http://memphis.craigslist.org/... or "talent" http://memphis.craigslist.org/tlg/ gigs. It's free to post on craigslist, and a lot of models check it for freelance work.

Also try a local college or university dance department. Most art departments are more than willing to work with you, particularly if you'll give them a copy of the prints for display on campus.

Which are better ballet shoes, canvas or leather?

not for pointe just for ballet.

Which are better ballet shoes, canvas or leather?mr messed up

I prefer canvas shoes. As some people have said, they do get dirtier a little bit faster than leather shoes, but the good thing about canvas shoes is that you can just toss them in the washing machine and they'll look as good as new. (Just be sure your machine is set on the 'Gentle' or 'Delicate' cycle.)

I also feel that canvas will fit your feet better than leather, and it breathes better than leather too. But honestly, both types of shoe are good and it's really which type you prefer.

Which are better ballet shoes, canvas or leather?getting late opera theater

Leather are better, they will stretch and mold to your feet better than canvas can. Canvas is cheaper though.
I don't think there's much in it but generally leather shoes are more dearer , it depends on where you want to buy your shoes from.
It all depends on your preference.

Leather is more expensive but last a LOT longer than canvas.

Canvas is cheaper and doesn't last as long.

I wear canvas because I like the way the shoes look on my feet. They're faster to break in, but get dirty and smell bad after awhile.

Good Luck
I much prefer canvas (split-sole) for the look and feel. Leather does last longer though. There is also more friction between the floor and the shoe with leather, so if you're used to canvas be prepared for a different resistance.
i wear canvas because i think they look better on my feet, but like everyone else said, leather last longer.

here are some good canvas shoes

sansha pro 1C

Capezio Juliet
for class i like full sole leather beause it is harder to point and turn in them, but for performances i like split sole canvas because they make your feet look more arched and if you can do a double in leather you can do a triple in canvas, also leather last longer and looks cleaner adnd neater for a longer period of time
Split sole canvas seems to fit a dancer's feet better. it also allows your feet to breathe more than leather, which traps the heat and sweat inside your shoe, plus it is less expensive. =]
I prefer split sole canvas... Just because I don't like the friction against the floor with leather. I also like split sole (sansha's) because I have wide feet and they seem to fit my foot better and make it easier to get a nice point.

But this is obviously individual. I suggest trying on different shoes in a dance store with trained staff so that you can feel the difference on your feet.
I personally like canvas shoes, but it is personal preferance. some people like leather and others like canvas. i would try leather one time and canvas the next. then you can be the judge. If I were you i would do that and not take others advice. They don't know you and what you like.
i personally prefer leather just because i dont like how canvas looks on me. i just had to buy a new pair...first time since 8th grade (im 24!). they were OLD school leather, like before capezio ever even made the daisy full sole...i just kept glueing them back together lol. it really is a matter of personal preference though.
I would say that leather ballet shoes are better. Only because you can see your pointed foot better and it makes for a more presentable dancer.
i prefer leather. they last longer and they mold to your feet better. if you do get leather get split sole shoes, they look better on your feet.

Is it too late to start ballet when im 14 years old?

I did ballet when i was in gr.6. I was the only onr in gr.6 and other kids were like, in gr.2-4. I was so imbarrased. One of the 4th grader was in my school and she made fun of me and I got so mad that I quit. Now, I want to do ballet again. Is it too late? I mean, I'm 14 years old.

Is it too late to start ballet when im 14 years old?tickets

IT IS NOT TO LATE!

But it is I admit too late to become a pro dancer, but as a hobby why not. And if you get really into it then you could continue in college. I'm 14 and I'm going to start ballet again, even though the oldest kids in my class are going to be 8-10 years old, who gives?

No ones gonna me 50 bucks if I don't go to that class , and who cares if I get teased, it's only going to be momentary thing I'll get over over it anyway. So yeah, you need to do ballet. BUT, I must reccomend going to a school that's not cheap, ( not the $40's range! BAD!). You need to go to a actually good school that people actually know about, or at least heard about. The good school will give you usually a student handbook, that has all of the information you'll need, and each level should go up by leotard color, also if they have piano accompiment I totally reccomend it. But don't just go anywhere check how the teacher is teaching, check A through Z. Make completely sure that this school is good. :) And check the prices. So yeah.

its ok, its not like there is a age that u can do ballet and after that u cant do it anymore. Whocares if people laugh at u.
tell the one who ADE FUN OF YOU TO, "BITE ME AND GET OVER HERSELF".your never to old to try to better yourself or try-new hings, go for it have fun, and flaunt your stuff in those busy bodies faces!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its never too late honey, follow your heart and have lots of fun and a Merry Christmas.
Nope, never to late to do ballet.

I would suggest though that if they have teen beginning ballet classes at your studio to take them because then your surrounded by teens that are beginning just like you.

If not just go into a class that is your level and hold your head up high and try your hardest.
no! i did ballet for 2 years when i was 6 and then stopped until i was in 7th grade to start up again. dont worry about other people and do what you do best. Dance!
its never too late! i teach dance lessons and there are adults that start at age 45! and if you practice, you can still do it professionaly. you just have to put a lot more into it, but i mean, being a professional is not everyones dream. some of my friends started ballet at age 21 and they look great to me now! no one is perfect, and don't let those little kids make fun of you! they aren't perfect either! i say go for it, and just know that you will probably have to practice some at home. an easy way to practice is to walk around on your tip toes, just so you get used to it. i hope you have fun and tell that girl that she can shove her ballet shoe in her mouth and shut up! good luck!
yes... i started when i was 3

How to wear ballet flats in the winter?

Are socks, tights, etc. worn with ballet flats in the winter? I always wear them without, but am not sure as the temperature will be getting colder. If a sock is worn, should it be the same color as the shoe, or the color of my pants or skin? Any ideas?

How to wear ballet flats in the winter?playhouse

Perhaps sheer, unseeable pantyhose. I would say that generally, you need bare feet with flats, though.

How to wear ballet flats in the winter?plays opera theater

If you have a dress or skirt on, you can wear black tights and it wouldnt really matter what color the shoe is. If you are wear pants, i would just wear an ankle white sock. If you want to get more depth in color. Red and gray match, yellow and black, green and black, pink and black.

Make the socks dark colors preferably.
I don't know about how people wear ballet flats in winter but I might suggest colorful socks like knee socks if you feel comfortable with that if not socks that go well with the flats like pink socks with pink flats.
I would wear tights that are skin color. I say tights because they are warmer.
knee socks or opaque tights
I would think tights or panty hose. I think you could match either your pants or shoe with tights and your skin with panty hose.

Or maybe wear socks that end right below your ankle.
I wear them with nude hose, or colored tights. I guess you could wear them with thin socks, as well.

Dress pants - match sock to shoe.

Casual pants - match to pants, shoe, or even top.
legwarmers. you can wear them over your jeans but a little bit of your foot would still be out. it's stylish and still warm.

good luck.
If you're wearing a skirt or dress, try wearing it with black opaque tights. If you're wearing trousers match your socks with shoes or try pop socks =]
go for tights and flats

Is it to late for me to learn ballet ?

Well actually relearn ballet, because I was in ballet for 3 years when I was 8-11 years old. I am now 16 and I have forgotten everything and I was wondering if it would be to late to learn ballet again since I never got to pointe.

About me:

-16(Age)

-5'8,127 pounds (Tall and thin)

Thank you for your help :)

Is it to late for me to learn ballet ?classical music

No. I don't think so. You just need to have the passion for it and the discipline that it takes. It might be a little harder now that your older. But YOU can do anything!

Is it to late for me to learn ballet ?ms stress opera theater

give it a try why not
Go for it!
Of course not...there are people who never learn to swim until they are adults so why not learn ballet when you are still young?
its never to late to learn anything.....if ur determined to re learn ballet...n if u can still flex and bend...go for it n enjoy....
actually you have to learn ballet since you're a kid, but if you try it hard, i'm sure you're not too late to remember it again
I have no doubt that is not to late to learn ballet. You are still young. However it may be too late for you to become really really good at it, you may have missed too much formative training. That being said if you have talent, desire, and the willingness to do the alarming amount of work necessary to become a dancer, you likely can become "a dancer". Good luck.
I learnt ballet when I was 5 till the age of 14. I was already in the Senior years then when I stopped my ballet classes.

After I started work, I had reconsider taking up the classes again but decided against it. It was because I don't think I am able to point my toes as much as I want to. %26amp; whenever I point my toes, I get cramps. So, I decided not to continue though it still remains as one of my passions. I sometimes still try to do some pirouettes %26amp; party pockers to amaze myself. Haha.

My advice to you, try to read up a bit %26amp; try some moves yourself. If you think you can manage, then you sign up. Also, you have to be flexible enough.

Another suggestion is to request for a try out in one of the classes. If you are able to manage, then you sign up for the class. If you can't manage, you can just still to watching.
well u can try.. but if u wanna be a profesional ballet dancer.. it's too late
It's never too late to learn. You may be surprised at how much you remember even if it was years ago. It is almost certainly too late for you to become a professional ballet dancer. BTW, your body type sounds great - Balanchine would have loved you....
No way! It's never too late to do something you enjoy. Besides, your 16- you'll re-learn the skills quickly. If you're dedicated, then it will be important to immediately become disciplined to learn it and you'll be fine. Most importantly- HAVE FUN!
sure its not too late unless ur thinking of taking it pro. but sure why not and pointe is AWSUM!
It's never too late. I know of dance studios that offer classes for adults who've never worn slippers before. Go for it!
It's never too late to LEARN ballet...

...but to excell at it, you should have started (and continued) when you were young. Something about learning the form while your body is still forming itself.

I myself took ballet at that age. It is fun, and easy to pick up again if you have the mind for dance.
you can start at any age... except that you might not be able to become a pro, you can have fun dancing anytime!
It's never too late. The dance school my girls go to have Ballet classes for adults. You may not be able to dance professionally, but it doesn't sound like that's your goal. Plus, it's good exercise!
go for it have fun with it :)

Best place for ballet for a three year old ?

Looking for a ballet studio in the baltimore md area for my three year old daughter.

Best place for ballet for a three year old ?performing arts

I also do not live in Baltimore, but I will add to the other answer's good advice.

To be honest they are not learning ballet at three, they are gaining motor development and getting used to a class environment. Teaching ballet to three year olds is a lot like babysitting. Just remember to keep your expectations realistic.

Most professional schools of ballet will not even let them into pre-ballet until they turn four. Professional schools tend to be non-profit so they can do this. Ballet for three year olds is a money maker for a small studio, but a legitimate studio will be upfront about what you are really getting out of it. The term pre-ballet is a hint, and if the class is for four to five it is also a hint you are dealing with a professional school. For a three year old look for classes labeled “creative movement” or “parent and me” and you will have a better experience. I would try the community center, and if he or she shows a talent or love of ballet look for a classical ballet studio that is not a “tap, jazz, hip-hop, and ballet school” but a pure classical ballet studio, there is a huge difference.

This is true from Baltimore to Portland.

Best place for ballet for a three year old ?binoculars opera theater

I don't live in Baltimore, but I am a professional dancer and have been in and out of many studios, and thought I might offer a little advice. Before enrolling your daughter, go to the studio and watch classes, meet the parents of other students, and talk with the owners/artistic directors.

i need to lose weight before i can start making it less dangerous for me any ideas how i take 2 pointe classes a week and ballet 3-4 times a week

I am taking ballet (pointe) classes i am the only one who didnt an approval or letter saying i can start on poperforming show

Hmm...the subject was cut off but I'm guessing the last word is pointe! lol! I AM on pointe so don't think I'm just some random person answering this. Losing weight is a tough issue. I can't say I'm overweight but I imagine it puts a lot more strain on your poor toes! First off, make a goal. How much weight do you want to lose? 2 pounds is a good start off goal. If you try hard you will lose more and it will feel better but if you lose 2 pounds its still an acheivement! I like to get a permanent marker and put a big mark on my hands. Try to get a bright orange marker so you will notice it. When you reach for the food you will notice the mark and try to resist. Another good idea is using SMALLER plates. It will seem like you're eating more if you fill the whole plate but really you're eating less! Also blue makes your appetite go away for the most part! Isn't that awesome? Use BLUE plates, BLUE bowls, and paint the your walls BLUE if possible! I hope that helps! I'll pray for you with this!

I am taking ballet (pointe) classes i am the only one who didnt an approval or letter saying i can start on poopera score opera theater

Hmm...I'm not positive what your quesiton is, but I do want to say that unless you are very over weight it should not be a problem. I don't know who is telling you that you cannot start pointe just because of your weight. I know some girls who are not on the small side and they are in pointe classes and some are better then me and a bunch of other small girls in the class!

It's not your size that makes the dancer, it's the determination, effort and pratice that makes the dancer! Good luck with getting into a pointe class!
I know two great dancers who aren't exactly the smallest people in the world.

However, I have a friend who is slightly overweight and she has problems keeping her balance while on pointe. This may be the reason, or maybe she just has bad balance. Either way, you can get around the weight problem by practicing better balance in FLAT shoes on releve at home.

Unless you try to do stuff that is excessively hard for you to do then nothing should be too dangerous.

Washing Jazz and Ballet Shoes?

My ballet and jazz shoes are really old and smell... ewww! can i put them in the washing machine and dryer? i'd rather not handwash (:

Washing Jazz and Ballet Shoes?comedy show

Cleaning the outside of the shoe, if they are leather, can be done with a Mr Clean Magic Eraser, works great! (I've also used baby wipes and other wipe cleaners).

If they are canvas ballet shoes, put them in the wash on cold--gentle cycle. Don't dry them in the dryer with heat--they'll shrink. Hang them up to dry.

As far as the smell goes, all dancers deal with this one!! I have tried many different things....febreeze them and let them air out outside for a while. I have also used a light mix of rubbing alcohol and water, store bought shoe odor sprays help a bit, and lysol spray isn't too bad either.

There are odor inserts that you can buy and put in your shoes when you are done dancing...the sweat inside your shoes stays there and causes the odors...

Washing Jazz and Ballet Shoes?greek theater opera theater

honestly, I think your best bet is getting new shoes. you can check out websites such as discountdancewear.com and justforkix.com for wayyy discounted shoes.

but if you are bent on washing, here is what I do. I spray some lysol kitchen cleaner on the leather of the shoes, and rub the dirt off. But if the shoes are canvas, and you dont want to handwash them, then I would use cold water with some gentle detergent, on the most gentle cycle. Then let them air dry
Its not the best idea becuase they are leather and the washing machine can ruin them

you best bet might be just to get new shoes and buy a nice smelling not to strong spray and spray in there everytime after you dance, i do this and it works well
there isn't really any good way to clean ballet and jazz shoes. Your best bet would definitely be to get new shoes. If you can't get new shoes and your just looking to clean them up for recital or a show you could try hand washing them or getting leather cleaner(if they are black) that always works well with my jazz shoes. Good luck
My dance teacher always suggested that we clean our shoes with a little 409 or some type of cleaning supplies like that. Just take a wash cloth and rub it on the shoes. It always worked for me. If they are too bad, though, you may want to consider getting new shoes. I'm not sure about the smell either
It depends on what kind of material is the shoes.

Cavans :Gentle cycle in machine or hand wash. Hang dry after washing

Satin: Use a damp cloth to wipe

Leather: Use non-gel toothpaste. Polish it with leather shoe polish.

Help please asap ballet or hip hop or both?

is there a dance that has ballet and hip hop in it. is there a type of dance and what is it called?

The closest I can think would be commercial jazz. It uses ballet technique, but some hip hop moves are thrown in.

Help please asap ballet or hip hop or both?home theatre opera theater

I use to take hip hip and ballet but hip hop is betta.
No, there isn't. I think you should take Ballet frist at least, it's the foundation of all dance. :)

Happy Dancing!!! :)
the one you are looking for is jazz. i think you should try ballet. i must warn you though... if you choose ballet it is very fun if you have the heart for it but is is very difficult. just try it though. it is really fun when you get into it. but if you don't have enough time to work on technique i would choose either jazz or hip hop.
i say both because hip hop gives you rhythm and ballet teaches you technique and poise and gives you strength.
No i dont think there would be a dance combined because they are both 2 totally different styles.. i have seen like ballet and jazz but not hip hop.. but you never know..
you could try jazz. it has some of both. mostly technique based from ballet, but depending on the song, it may have some hip-hop like qualities. or lyrical is cool, but there's not really any hip-hip... but its cool
some studios offer "combination classes" where its like you have 20 min of jazz, hip hop, and ballet all rolled into a one hour class. it is fun for people who just want to get fit and aren't looking for serious ballet training, but if you want to seriously commit this is not the place to go for ballet training. if you want to train for ballet you should find a studio that trains their students for ballet primarily. best of luck !
probably not because they're such different styles. i suppose jazz is kinda like the two of them combined. i'd suggest seeing if maybe your studio will let you try out a class in hiphop, ballet, and jazz for free just once to see which you like best. then after trying them all out you can see for yourself which class(es) you want to take. if that's not an option you could also see about just watching the classes.

Thinking about trying ballet.?

I have been thinking about trying ballet, for fun and to stay in shape, what do you think?

I am male 25 years old 5'11" 195lbs

Am I too old to learn? How much weight would I need to lose if any? Do you think it would be akward as a male?

Beginner classes for adults?

Boy thats a lot.....phew

Thinking about trying ballet.?say yes

Usally the age is started at a younger age, but anything is possiable! I love to see more males every year dance! Keep in mind Ballet has strict diet rules and such its demanding on the body and takes tons of practice!

Thinking about trying ballet.?palace theatre opera theater

I think it is a great idea...you will be in demand even as a student. You will have great fun! I enjoy being around all the creative artsy people and the type of people they attract... dancers, actors/actresses, writer, musicians, artists etc..

Don't get hung up about the gender issue. It is very masculine... are you kidding? The weight has to do with body type and height/weight proportion. You will settle out and find/learn your correct space.

Do it....I hope you have a great time!
It's never too late to learn! I had and instructor who didn't dance until he was in college and actually went pro a few years later, he's now a ballet master at a contemporary ballet company.

You should definitely try ballet. It is a great way to stay in shape and a great way to meet others that have similar interest. Don't worry about your age, weight, or gender. Lots of dance schools have adult beginner classes and make sure you look for just that. Ask if you can observe a class you'll see that all sorts of people taking the class. Hope this helps you out !
dance is for any shape, any size any age any level, i take dance they have kid, teen adult and even senior classes and all levels! pilates is a great way to stay in shape and even out flexibility and strength on both sides.
1. as a male dancer, any studio will snatch you up for classes.

2. never too old to learn, and youre smart to recognize the health benefits, at the very least, of dancing at your age.

3. hard to say with the weight thing, but it doesnt matter. do what you enjoy

4. call local studios and see what they offer
youre pretty good to go. you just need some weight training(reccomended) and to be prepared for some strenuous activity. and make sure you get a "belt".(look it up)and try to avoid white tights....hope that helped!
First of all, you do not need to lose any weight! Any body shape can do ballet.

And yes, you can start now. They do have adult classes. College programs and ballet schools also offer colleges. You might try looking into your local community college. My community college offered ballet classes.

The thing to remember is do what you want to do and what you love. Don't worry about what everyone else thinks. In essence, isn't that what dancing is all about? Loving what you do and not caring about harsh opinions? :) Good luck!

(and no, no strength training or any is required, although being fit in anyway can help. You will feel your butt and thighs sore though!)

Jazz dance or Ballet dance??Which one to choose?

i really want to get into dancing.im 16 years old but not sure if its too late to start. As a beginner which should i chose? Jazz or Ballet? Either class i want it to help me become a better dancer. Plus id liek to do turns and leaps and stuff like that if you knwo what i mean.

Jazz dance or Ballet dance??Which one to choose?getting late

well first of all its never to late to start dancing! and if u want to get better faster i suggest ballet. ballet is the foundation of all dance. if u cant do ballet ur not gonna be able to do anything else. i swear it! i coudnt be the dancer i am now if i hadnt started out with ballet!! yes jazz is more fun but i say start out with ballet and once u have takin that for awhile you can work yur way up to takin jazz classes. jazz will be soo much easier if u have taken ballet first and understand the moves they will want u to do. like point your feet, pirhouette, things like that. i hope this helps!!

???

Jazz dance or Ballet dance??Which one to choose?regal theater opera theateryepp ur welcome!!! it shoudnt be to expensive tho. go to discountdance.com they have evryhting u will need to start dancing!! ??? Report It

i think jazz is way better, i started when i was nine, it is alot of fun!!! it has a lot of fast moves to.
I'm not a dancer but it seems to me that jazz dancers are having way more fun on stage than ballet dancers
if you're going for the moves then jazz. personally i prefer ballet but it's very sensual ans u gotta be a real dreamer and truely romantic to hold onto it. jazz is more accepted in public and it has very hard and quick moves too. it really gets your attention. so go for it.
I chose them both and loved both. The ballet exercises help you develop the muscles to do the jazz moves.
First of all you are never too old to do anything that you have a passion for. I have studied Jazz, modern and ballet and what I have learned is that ballet will give you a good foundation to use for any dance style even ballroom. You will learn to stay centered, to spot on your turns, how to get power to leap high in the air. All of the good basics that you can then use in all other styles that are more fun to do. This is where you will learn to do those "turns and leaps and stuff like that". You are about to embark upon a journey that will be hard work but lots of fun. enjoy yourself.
jazz=

your more likely to be put into a clas with your age group.

Great fun.

Great exercise.

Defo has turns and leaps.

Awesome music.

Better to be a older beginner in my opinion.

Less technique than ballet in my opinion ~(better for a older beginner).

Cheaper than ballet. (just jazz shoes you need to buy, possibly like trousers or top depedns where you learn)

Ballet=

So beautiful.

More likely to be put in a younger class or a group of older better people.

More technique.

More expensive (leotard, pointe shoes, ballet shoes, skirt etc)

in my opinion jazz is better for you however it is up to you which ever you think you would prefer..........try taking both for a few weeks and then decide if you are unsure!!!!

good luck....dancing is awesome!!!
I really think u should choose ballet. If u wan 2 do any type of dance u should begin wit ballet. Ballet is used in different types of dances and it helps u with balance and technique. I hate to do leaps and turns as well, but trust me....its GOOD 2 learn it.
It's never too late to start. I've been dancing since I was 3, and I took ballet starting off, but you being 16.. I think you should start with jazz. Ballet is more and more complex each age level. It also depends on your flexibility. Jazz is a good combination of faster dancing, and ballet. It's better if your not very flexable yet. Ballet takes time and patience, and is really slow. I took it for like 4 years and quit it. Jazz has a lot of the easier ballet stuff in it. But if you really want turns and leaps, there is a class (depending on the dance studio) called Turns and Jumps. I love jazz dancing and it goes well with hip-hop classes.

Keep in mind you can always take one and if you don't like it, swich to the other one next year. Or take both, and drop out of one if you really don't like it.

My only complaint about dancing is sometimes the shoes are hard to find in your size.
well jazz does leaps and turns but ballet makes u a way stronger dancer
i say ballet!!it helps with flexibilty and balance!!i do jazz but i like ballet way better!!
No, 16 is still young. Pick which dance fits you best. and if you like both, then simply do both dances.
def not too late (u can try 2 sign up for a teen class so ur with ppl ur age)

ballet would help w/ disipline and its the core of all dancing

jazz focuses on the leaps a little more

can u do both (cuz thats wat id do if i was u)

jazz is a little more upbeat that classical ballet

Ok dancers, let's be realistic. Isn't Ballet just another skill??

I mean. Think of it this way: You go to Germany without knowing a word of German (and never having learned another language in your life). Once you go there and take a few German lessons and stuff, you becomes such a wiz at German that you can say anything with great profession.

How this relates to Ballet: Once you get your legs all stretched out, and your ankles and hips good and strong, isn't Ballet just another skill that you don't need a gazillion years of training to be good at?

I knew a guy who learned to read for the first time when he was 90. And all those people on Dancing With The Stars learn how to dance at a professional level in only.. what.. a few months (I've never really watched the series.. i have a class when it comes on)?

I can tell that Ballet is trickier than it looks, but does it really require so many years of experiance? I know companies only accept "the best" and stuff. Do companies even look at those who HAVEN'T been in training since birth?

Ok dancers, let's be realistic. Isn't Ballet just another skill??ballet

I can understand how from the outside, ballet does seem like a skill that can be mastered in a few years like a language. however, there is so much more to it. Yes, you have to have strength and flexibility and all of that, but I have worked with many people who have those qualities and are very discouraged when they begin taking classes and realize how much more there is to it than that. There is a lot of blood sweat and tears that goes into the art of learning the technique. If ballet were just something that people could pick up in a few years and become great, there would be so many more people that are great at it. There is no way to compare the art of ballet to the art of linguistics or the sort. I appreciate your question though and your willingness to learn about the subject. Have a great day!

Ok dancers, let's be realistic. Isn't Ballet just another skill??globe theater opera theater

Obviously its a skill... but did you learn to walk the second "your legs got stretched out"? Do you have any idea how long it takes to get your feet and ankles to be strong? There's a reason companies don't look at those without the years of training... its the same reason art schools don't look at people who buy finger paints when they're bored...Taking a few German lessons will get you the same place taking a few ballet classes will: nowhere near perfection.

The guy who learned to read at 90 didn't just pick up "Pride And Prejudice", his ability to read developed after almost a century of exposition to linguistics and audio-visual stimuli that he eventually translated into the ability to interpret those phonemes in printed form. The people on Dancing with the stars are by no means professional, but most of them have performing or athletic bakcgrounds that enabled them to grasp the material more quickly. No, you don't need to pop out of the womb in pointe shoes but come on, give credit where its due, dancing is one of the hardest things in the world to learn, and even harder to excel in.
ballet is so much more than stretching their legs out. it requires at the least of six years with experiance. companies that only accept "the best" are usually acadamies that you try out for, or just strict studios. the studios that allow older students to begin dance DO look at the student who HAVEN'T been in training since birth. which by the way, if you are talking about three year old ballet, all tehy do is jump and hop around the room and play with ribbons. there is no point in putting a child/infant in ballet untill they are 7 years old which is usually the age requirment of Ballet I-II. ballet is strong work and you do have to have many years, about six, to get into pointe [ballet on your toes in pointe shoes] which is most dancer's dream. do me a HUGE favor and try a ballet class and then ask this question again. also its not just getting your legs all stretched out, it takes a few good years of stretching to get into splits and other exercises.
It is a lot more than skill. If ballet is just a skill then Goethe was just another native speaker of German.

Dancing is an art that requires a lot of skill. Skill however *is* required.

As a trained ballroom dancer I can tell you that those celebrities on Dancing With The Stars are not anywhere near professional level. They look like well trained beginners.

If it was possible to teach someone to be a good professional dancer in just a couple of years that's exactly what people would have been doing. Yet, ballet schools compete with each other who's method is more effective, and it still takes years to train a dancer.
yeah sure of course it's a skill. All dances are skills. I mean, I learn tap dance, jazz, street jazz, ballet and spanish dancing and I think it's a really cool thing to get involve in
i agree with Amdd. I think she is right totally.
yes, it is a skill...
Be live it or not, it actually shows when you dance. The way your body moves and the way you point your feet can tell how long you've been dancing.

As for the "Dancing with the stars" people, they usually have taken classes related to dance, such as gymnastics. But they don't start taking dance until later.
This is great, everybody in an uproar.

Ballet is not a skill - it's technique.

That guy might learn how to read but he doesn't know how to write - or write well.

It's a skill to learn how to paint a house - it takes mondo technique to paint like the Dutch Masters, and yes: they studied a lifetime.

Stretching and jumping is just learning how to use the brushes and stretch the canvass -- it takes years of technique to be able to paint or dance ballet.

Those Dancing With The Stars guys - it's be like me learning One Song on the piano by practicing it over and over until my fingers learned it. It doesn't mean I know how to play a piano nor am I a musician.

Peace.
Well first off i think you're being way to harsh on Ballet. Ballet is very hard to do. it Depends on your body type. If you are naturally flexible and strong then you will most likely get better faster. Other people may have to work on flexibility to become very good. Even if your are flexible that doesn't mean you barley have to work though. Ballet requires so much strength i doubt you could just call it "another skill" it may seem like that at first if your doing well, but honestly there is probably some other type of ballet that you wouldn't be great at. Unless you are some super lucky person who was born with perfect ballet atributes.
It depends on the level you want to reach, and how much natural talent you have. I'm taking ballet now, and i don't find it hugely difficult, but I know what I'm doing isn't that hard. If you want to be a profesional dancer, you have to be awesome. You have to have all the tiniest details perfect. Just watch a profesional dance show really carefully, and you'll see. You never know how hard it can be until you've gotten to the highest level. I haven't personally, but some of my friends have done dance for years, and it gets tough. The better you are, the harder your pushed.

Ladies, question about ballet slippers????

Do you wear leather ballet slippers as slippers or a causual shoe, and not just for dance?

Ladies, question about ballet slippers????sheet music

I personally don't, but I might if I had some. You can get regular ballet slippers soled so they're more durable and last longer, and I would probably do that if I had easy access to ballet shoes.

Ladies, question about ballet slippers????state theatre opera theater

There are certain types of "ballet slippers" (aka flats) that you can buy at most shoe stores that aren't made for ballet dancing. These are the kinds we would wear on a regular bases. I think that wearing actual ballet slippers to walk around would be uncomfortable and would ruin the bottom of the slipper.
Ballet slippers as a style of shoe have become very popular, but they are not quite like the ones used for ballet dance.
u wer proper ballet slippers u get at dancin shops 4 dancin but u r probs meanin doll shoes and u normally wer them 4 casual
Ballet flats these days aren't meant for ballet, or to be used as slippers. They can be a casual or fancy substitute to a shoe. I usually wear flats instead of heels because they are more comfortable.

Difference between RAD Ballet and Checcetti?

Well I switched ballet schools because the old school was just horrid. The girls were a bunch of spoiled little brats and the teacher just plain despised me .

Anyways my old school was checcetti based and this one is RAD. Is there any major differences?

I mean so far i just noticed some of the moves are named differently. Is there more?

Just wondering. Thanks

I'm not really sure of the difference..My school is RAD but i've taken many Vaganova and Balanchine classes..I've never taken a Checcetti class but I do know that RAD is kind of a mixture of all of the different styles of ballet...So it probaly has alot of similarities with Checcetti but also some main differences.

I'm doing ballet next year and need tips to get back in shape?

Hi. I did dance when I was younger and up until 3 years ago. I did ballet, tap, jazz, and some hiphop and acro. I really wanted to do dance this year, but missed the sign up. Anyway, I am for sure doing next year, but want to brush up on some basics and start getting back into shape, so I won't look like completely lost when I go. Any suggestions?

I'm doing ballet next year and need tips to get back in shape?plays

well, first, your ankles need to build back up to there formor strength. do this by using something like a barre (ex:the back of a chair, a kitchen counter, ect) to keep your ballance. releve (go up in demi pointe) in first postion, second, third, fourth, and fifth postion. then do about 20 (or more) on each side. also, in ballet it's about strenght of the whole body, not endurnce. so do these things slow, not fast. even try some slow crunches/sit ups.

i'm so glad your getting back into dance!

have fun, keep dancing, and good luck!

I'm doing ballet next year and need tips to get back in shape?opera ticket opera theater

Get a bar or something like a bar (I used to use the kitchen counter) and go through the execises we use in ballet. Also do some Yoga for the stretching and its great for a lot of other things too.

http://www.learntodance.com/online%20bal...
Yes return to your Ballet training, and Tap, take lessons again with a local dance school, that is a sure fire way of getting back into shape, plus most schools do performances, so that will help you get your stage presence back. Break A leg, whatever your choice. One more thing Pilates is a Dancers best friend for exercise outside the studio.
I just got back into dance after a year off and i found that I had lost the majority of my balance for turns because my core wasnt as strong as it used to be...soo work on all of your core muscsles...back, abs. shoulders...

How do i get into a ballet company when i'm older?

i'm 11 years old and i take 4 ballet lessons a week. i live in london and i dont go to a full time dance school. my ballet teachers say i have a chance of becoming a proffesional and it has always been my dream, but do you know how i can do this when i dont go to a dance school?

please help, thank you.

How do i get into a ballet company when i'm older?ms stress

Getting into a dance company is really hard. About 100 peope try out and only 5-10 get in. Their is a lot of companys, and with you ability, you will be able to get into at least one. A lot of companys averise on the internet, so looking up some companys online is a great idea. If you type in "Dance companys in _______ (where ever you live)" on google or yahoo you will find some. Before trying out for a company, do you resaearch about it. Find out what their requirements for dancing their, famous dancers that went to that company, and their history. If you really work hard I am sure you will get into a famous compay someday, and you picture will be on posters every where. Hope this helps, Happy Dancing!!!

Why dont you ask your teachers ?
lots of practice and i mean A LOT to catch up with your compettition
There is the Royal Ballet Academy (%26amp; I think school, also) in London that your teachers could %26amp; should refer you to. You are at the perfect age to begin training there. The best of luck to you.
Good for you to have such a great ambition. You will need to audition for a place. The following one is for your age group. There is an audition next August in Bromley for Coppelia.

http://www.englishyouthballet.co.uk/audi...

There are hundreds of ballet companies who you might want to contact for more information. Visit www.balletcompanies.com and click on UK link.
The Royal ballet school hold audtions for their full time courses which you can see more about on their website, I know that at least two people from my old dancing school got in.

As you are 11 it might mena you boarding but if it's your dream go for it, don't give up if you don't get in you can audition for other companies when you're older.

Good Luck
You can try looking them up online there are a lot.And iwhen you do go to auditions and you'll make it or you can also look in the paper.

How long before Essendon start the ballet lessons ?

Does anyone agree with me..

If a player wants to lessen his chances of getting a hamstring injury, he must do Ballet stretching exercises.

The game has changed, so the coaching methods must incorporate the ballet techniques or players will be sidelined for weeks on end. Mark McVeigh is another casuality to cop this injury when the legs are in the toughest last quarter of a match.

Maybe the onus is on the individual to stretch the hammies, rather than having it a group thing at the club on training nights.

How long before Essendon start the ballet lessons ?performing arts center

Yea i think they should to. they should try doing yoga and pilates aswell. i used to do them when i did Athletics. it works coz i became the best 400m and 200m runner in the whole of Queensland.

I agree with you.

Let me say that some of them would be better suited now, at ballet dancing, rather than trying to play Aussie Rules.

Plus, I think some of them would like parading around in those ballet tights, that male ballet dancers wear!
The way they are playing at the moment, maybe that is what they are doing instead of playing the actual game. Come on you guys, get stuck into the game instead of ballet footing around.

i would go for wat you can can get but then get proper tights as they would last longer.
in walmart there is a section of daskin dance ware in the little girl section thoes are a good brand.
definetly Wal-Mart over a sports store. Also try googling dance supply stores in your area.
Discountdance.com has multiple brands of tights at cheaper prices. You can get really good tight from a place like walmart or foot locker. You can get in the kids section at Target some danskin tights which are really good.

hope this helps!!!
Don't go to walmart, but if a dance supply store is out of the question, I'd choose that over a sport store. Tights from walmart probably won't last long and there quality isn't as good as it would be from a dance store. They aren't dance tights, so they're different.

Hey im starting ballet this year and am just wondering do you have to be skinny to go on pointe?

No way! I've seen "built" girls do it gracefully.
Theres no set year..you can get started at any time and from what I've seen it is mostly fit women that perform these stunts
Hey, I know how you feel. I hope to start ballet next year, when I'm 14. I would say to start looking for a studio in the Summer, find one that you think is good and afordable, and get regestered. This is done by either phoning the studio or just stopping by. Most take credit cards. In all dance there are to terms. The first goes from about September-December and the second term from about Janruary-May/June. Then, at the end of classes in May/June, you have the choice to be a part of the studio's recital. This allows your friends and family to see how you have progressed. I suggest you go to a studio that does other types of dance (ie. jazz, modern, lyrical, character, hiphop, tap, ect.) as it is usually less expensive then an all ballet school/studio.

As for your wieght/size, usually for professionals the hieght it around 5'3. But, as you stated, you do not want to be professional, so hieght does not matter. And for your wieght, again professionals try to stay tiny, some anorexic. But for recreational dancing, any wieght is fine. Really try to stay flexible. Good luck, and happy dancing!
Professional ballerinas are skinny but that's not what you want to do. So no you do not have to be skinny to be on pointe. You have to have strong calf muscles and good ankles.
No you do not have to be skinny to go on pointe. You just have to have strong ankles and leg muscles...other wise you will not be able to go up on pointe and could hurt your body if your not ready yet. You start ballet whenever you want too start.
you don't even need to be worrying about pointe shoes now... you won't be getting those for a while anyways
no, not really. itd be easier

i was itty bitty when i took ballet so im not quite sure
i have no idea what those turn into in non-metric format, buuuuut you do not have to be skinny to do pointe work.

im proof positive of that!
You don't have to be skinny at all, but you MUST be strong.

There is no specific ballet year, it depends on the particular school and when they're semesters start, but most if not all schools will allow outsiders to start classes at any time during the year. So just go, don't worry about starting on time. The more days that go by, the longer it will take to get where you want to be technically.

Typical cost of ballet and tap lessons?

What should I expect to pay for ballet lessons (group vs. private) and tap lessons (group vs. private) ? I know there isn't a set fee, but a rough estimate would be nice.

Thanks.

Typical cost of ballet and tap lessons?regal theater

One GROUP class a week is $50-$60 per month, 5 classes a week is $200-$225. The more classes per week you take, the cheaper each class cost. Your total cost will depend on how serious you are. If you want to take just for fun, you could take 2 ballet and 2 tap classes per week. If you want to get really good, you'd have to take much more. Most schools require a minimum of 2 classes a week for each type of dance, at lower levels. The higher the level, the more required classes.

Privates run about $100 per hour at a good dance school. Hope this helps!

About to begin ballet after six years.....?

I am about to start ballet again after a six year lay-up. Any hints to make it easier, or to help for sore muscles? The last time I danced was in 5th grade. I was going to move up a class, but the time for which it was schedualed conflicted with my mother's work, so I had to drop dancing. Then I moved to NJ, and we just got around to signing me up. I realise that any hopes of dancing professionally are pretty much down the drain (I'm 16), but thats okay, because I dance for the fun of it. So any ideas?

I would suggest you take as many classes you can stand and see if your talent is up to the task. You may need to ease into it though. Remember to stretch before AND after....eat right and take Tylenol as you need it. You have the right attitude - I really like that. Remember, pain can make you stronger. I wish you luck - I really do.

ok so ive been dancing since i was three years old im not sure what started it but now im 18 and ive been doing it for 15 years now. i love it and always have i just started out doing ballet and pointe but then got into tap and jazz and lyrical . i love all my dance classes. ive been in numerous competitions and have faithfully been going since i was three. i believe that it was what i was born to do. i love it. it gives me such joy. when i have an off day i will go and dance for a couple of hours and i feel so much better. its such a lease on life a wonderful way to express your slef and its quite artsy espically when you start competting . theres so much beauty and love and passion thats put into certain dances . you cant just dance them you have to feel them and actually act out with emotion and movement. i will never stop dancing soon i will be going to college but i will keep dancing and i hope to have my own dance school later on . im going to school for business so i can have the degrees i need to start my dance school . i am a junior advisor for three ballet classes and two jazz and three pointe classes at my dance studio. it gives me such unbelivable power and freedom. i encourage you too join a local studio and try it out. even if you dont want to comepte right away.
Dance! Ballet! YES! It is a passion! I like to watch dancers show the emotions, the movement, of abstruse emotions like "love", "disaster", "excitement", "fear", "camaraderie", "hate" ........... dancers show these emotions without having to produce verbiage ... words that may dispel the "emotion" of what is presented. Dance helps me experience not only happiness ... but also all of the other emotions humans feel. Music is good ...... but DANCE really shows and brings me to the emotions of what has been written, choreographed, and presented.
I have a general artistic interest...so human form, it's movement, color etc. interests me. I happen to enjoy all music BUT, I was raised on and have a special fondness for "classical music". I also enjoy foreign language (esp. German and Italian). I guess the more I watched and listened the more it grew on me. I like being around the the population of people that enjoy ballet...they are expressive, enjoy all arts, usually educated, and like food/travel.

I guess... I enjoy the music/voice first and the visual part gives another dimension. When you blend the two an emotional part emerges. They can be pretty sexually charged sometimes too. You might try to identify with one of the performers during the performance.

The best advice I can give is... do some homework BEFORE you go to a specific ballet. The more you understand ahead...the more you will appreciate when you go. What others spend on sporting events...I spend on the ballet.

What you learn to relate to... will be unique to you and your life experiences. It is not the same for everyone. It is a kind of spirituality... sometimes you can find someone that you can enjoy a ballet with...can be a special night that has memories of it's own. It is a complex experience...so give yourself some time to grow into it. You won't be sorry!

That is my "best answer" ! Hope to see you there soon.
omg Star T i looved cats!!! but i never got to finish it :(

but any ways dancing is my passion. its unbelievable and it makes me feel like me, i don't have to hold back anything or act like something im not.
I love ballet. I'm the clumsiest person ever but when i'm dancing i love to feel that control and grace. I just forget about whatever is going on in my life and i pour everything i've got into my dancing.
I love Ballet so much. It is my passion because when I'm on stage nobody cares about how I look or anything they are focused on my dancing. Just dancing fills me up with this feeling that I can do anything. It kind of hard to explain, but just dancing gives me joy even if I can't get the step right.
i love it because its beautiful and elegant, and its what i grew up doing. my great grandmother was a professional ballerina, i plan to be one too. ballet also has a lot of history, and is known in a variety of places, once you start ballet, it becomes part of you.

Am I Too Old To Dance Ballet 23?

I have always wanted to dance ballet, and thought I would definately go for it (i couldnt beofre because of circumstances) I am worried though because now im 23 and don't know if im too old. I starting beginners lessons next week for adults at a reputable ballet company but wonder if I can only go so far. Am I too old, or will I be able to get to the same standard as professional ballerinas one day? Thank you so much :)

Am I Too Old To Dance Ballet 23?performing arts show

It is never too late!

The key to dancing is to ensure that you follow a consistent training of stretching, technique, and physical movement. Age does not determine one's progression through dance, rather, it is one's passion and one's training that determines progression.

Ensure that you are learning and practicing proper technique, that you are stretching everyday to encourage the lengthening and elongation of your muscles, and that you are developing muscular formation to support the eventual progression to 'pointe' work.

I started dancing when I was 6 years old and trained consistently for a period of 8 years. I am now in my 30's and although I do not train any longer, I have still maintained my flexibility and technique through consistent stretching and recreational dancing.

Sheer love of the dance will carry you far, but a dedication to the craft through pursuing proper form, technique, and working on strength and flexibility will encourage your progression to more advanced work.

It is admirable that you are training with a reputable ballet company.

Go for it! You wont know unless you try, you may not get the lead in Swan Lake but you will be getting one heck of a work out! And there is never anything wrong with trying something you are interested in to see if you really like it! Have fun with life and that means going for it, whatever it may be!
you can dance ballet at 23, 24 etc.

it would be very hard for you to reach the level of most professional ballet dancers, who started at about age 5.

But you will never know unless you try it, and throw yourself into it, will you?
all you do is in joy it for now and later figure out if you'll go further with it. Defiently go do it!i know people who start at 30! ( she is in my class). As long as you train everyday almost all day if you really want to be a pro, but have fun for now! good luck.
ABSOLUTELY NOT! you will do great !

Good Luck
no your not to old im 22 and i started dancing last semester at my college im only in the beginner levels but next year ill be in intermediate with girls that have been dancing their whole lives it is alot of work and u really have to be dedicated to learning it but its alot of fun its great u found a company that excepts begginer adults

How can you stretch out canvas ballet shoes?

I haven't done ballet in about a year and a half, and during that time my shoe size has gone up about a half a size to one whole size. I was wondering if there was a way to stretch out my old, smaller ballet shoes so I don't have to go out and buy a brand new pair and break them in. They aren't pointe shoes, they're canvas shoes.

Any suggestions? Please. :D

How can you stretch out canvas ballet shoes?ballet theater

Usually canvas shoes stretch out as you wear them. Although a half a size may be too much to stretch out. I would suggest just wearing them around the house. If it just sucks after a few weeks then get new shoes.

Canvas isn't that hard to break in.

Good Luck

How can you stretch out canvas ballet shoes?chicago theater opera theater

Try going to a shoemaker, they are professionals in this kind of situation.
Canvas shoes usually do stretch as you wear them, but if they are old shoes that you have worn in the past for a while, they are probably already stretched as much as they can. It is probably best that you just go buy a new pair. This is also because the elastic probably has broken down, and the shoe from the bacteria and other nasty stuff that is naturally in the shoe after wearing it.

How do I sew the elastic on my ballet slippers?

I've been wearing dance paws to jazz and ballet but I just bought my first pair of ballet slippers, but I'm not sure how to sew on the 2 elastic straps. I know I'm suppose to criss-cross them but I don't know how to sew them to fit my legs. If you can give me some "How-tos" then it would be great. They're male ballet slippers by the way.

I find this website: http://www.wikihow.com/Sew-an-Elastic-St...

But what I really suggest is safety pinning the elastics before you sew them. Have a dance around, have a look how they feel and make any adjustments if necessary. Once you take the pin out make a mark with a texta so you know where you have to sew.

That's pretty much the only advice I can offer-I am a shocking sewer and my mum usually does it lol :)

Hope this helps!

Your best bet is to go back to the store you bought them in and have them teach you the proper way to sew them on. If they don't know how to sew on elastics there, ask a teacher or clasmate. Online guides don't compare to hands-on teaching.
i don't know how to put my web show on here
Most slippers come with one end attached, but I'm going to describe this like they aren't just in case! Take the shoe and fold down the back of it, like you would fold the end of a box you were wrapping. See those two little darts that stick up? That's where you want to attach one end each peice of elastic. After you do that, pull the elastic across your foot to see how tight you need it, and attach the other end near the seem at the middle of the shoe. Just make sure to sew it below the draw string, otherwise it gets stuck and pulls out!
sew the elastic near the back of the shoe

then put the shoe on

stretch it around ur foot, wereever its comfortable
i usually never sew my ballet slippers. haha. if i'm only using them for class i just cross them and tie them underneath my arch. but if you need to sew them at your studio just put them on and cross the straps then stretch them to where they seem comfortable, where they wont fall off but wont cut off circulation to your foot.

What things do ballet dancer eat?

what are the things ballet dancers (girls I mean) are allowed to eat and what are some food they CANT eat? I know they cant eat fast foods and sugar and fats, but what other things. what's they're diet in other words..? thanksss

What things do ballet dancer eat?performing art center

A true dancer of any kind is very athletic and can eat anything in moderation. Yes on a day to day basis you want to eat a healthy diet that don't go over the caloric intake for that persons size, but the reality is you can eat what you want if you take care of your self. you need to learn about different foods, what do carbs to for the body, what is a good amount of fat for a daily routine, ext.. You need to look at your bodies height, weight and build, there are charts on the internet that you can look at, or you can ask your doctor.

What things do ballet dancer eat?theatre tickets opera theater

When i was a dancer i ate anything i wanted, theres no rule to what you can and cant eat. you just have to be able to control how much your body takes in and only you can be the judge of that, you know it best.
Just like any other activity you will need a well balanced diet for example:veggies, water, fruits. all things healthy. You also may eat as many meals as you like just make em' small portions....
you can eat a lot as a dancer and still lose weight so it dosn't matter what you eat...just know when to stop..

I am really interested in dancing ballet as a serious hobbie. Should I take 2 sets of classes?

I am taking classes at my university for beginning ballet and also taking a ballet inspired workout once a week at my local gym. Should I consider taking classes at a regular dance school to supplement this or will this interfere in the teacher's methods?

I am really interested in dancing ballet as a serious hobbie. Should I take 2 sets of classes?oper

I disagree with what some are saying about 2 sets of classes being too much of a strain, either due to physical endurance or personal time management. If anything, your wanting to study ballet as a "serious" hobby means that you should be taking more than what the MWF or TTh (or whatever) single class section at your university can offer you.

However, I'd like to highlight what Geek said. Because there are different techniques of doing ballet, beginners can get really confused by studying with teachers who follow different approaches. Advanced students, on the other hand, DO need to learn how to "turn on and off each different technique," so taking classes from different teachers is actually recommended at the higher levels.

Therefore, I'd recommend consulting BOTH teachers about your desire to increase your dance classes. As long as both teachers understand that you're also receiving instruction elsewhere, they can help to minimize your confusion when they offer corrections.

In the long run, I think you'd stand a better chance of receiving more consistent and progressively more challenging instruction from the regular dance school, as that is where serious ballet students tend to go. However, that also depends on the quality of the studio and the teacher there. On the other hand, you may find it more convenient (and possibly cheaper) to continue to take classes at your university. But, in general, there is nothing wrong with getting your training from multiple sources.

Trish the Dish reveals her ignorance about dance training in her answer. Saying "you'll probably find that you're paying extra to learn the same things over," sounds like what many of my daughter's old high school acquaintances said to her. They asked, "You still taking dance classes? Haven't you learned how to do it by now?" Not only does this reveal an ignorance about the necessity of ongoing practice, but dance is one of the few areas where you MUST pay extra to get the kind of practice you need to excel. For one, few dancers have good floors to practice on at home, and two, even with a mirror, dancers need expert eyes to catch what they're doing wrong so they can fix it and practice doing it correctly. Sure enough, Trish has never asked or answered another dance question in all of her other 1400 answers.

I hope the various teachers in your area are willing to work with you to create a ballet class schedule that lets you pursue a serious study of ballet.

I am really interested in dancing ballet as a serious hobbie. Should I take 2 sets of classes?hollywood theater opera theater

I'd say to just stick with those two classes for the time being so that you can build up the basic stregnth and endurance. You don't want to overdue it as you don't want to injure yourself from doing too much. As your body becomes more accustomed to dancing, then, you'll be able to take more classes as time permits. You just want to remember that you need to do other things like studying, doing laundry, eating, sleeping, etc.
It shouldn't hurt anything, and it would probably be a lot of help, as long as teachers at the studio know what they are doing. Why not ask your teacher at the university about the dance school you're considering? Dancers tend to know the low down on all the other teachers in town.
yes it would be good support for all ur clasees
Well I think you should probably complete the class at your school first, and then move on to something a bit more advanced.

I don't think it's that you will interfere with your teacher's methods, it's just that it might be too much too soon if you try taking more than one class. Plus, more than likely you'll probably find that you're paying extra to learn the same things over.

So get the basics down and then find a place to take some dance classes. They should be able to help you determine what level of class you need.

Good luck!
Sure, it won't hurt you.

I also want to say that as a ballet dancer, there are many types and techniques of doing ballet. These techniques can change head positions, arms postitions and how you dance. So this may or may not interfere with your teacher's methods. As a ballet dancer, you shoukd be able to turn on and off each different technique you learn and is introduced to. If you want to take ballet seriouly, I do suggest going to a regular dance studio/school if you hope to continue ballet professionally.
i would just stick with the classes your taking now, because with homework, and other activities you may not have time for extra classes. in a few weeks you feel that you still want to dance at another school, try it, but only take about 1 or 2 classes. you dont want to over do it. you could also try talking do your dance teacher about this. your dance teacher will probably have the best information.

yes i thought it was really good i put it on for my daughter to watch but ended up watching it myself instead of reading
I completely forgot about it, had been looking forward to it all over the christmas period, and then missed it. I'm gutted, hoping it will be repeated at some point as everyone who saw it said it was really good.
Yes, I have always been a fan of Emma Watson through the Harry Potter films (she is not how I really pictured Hermione in the books, but she still does a wonderful job). This film was a great period piece, yet still very relevant today. It's about following your dreams and caring about those around you more than anything (even acting, dancing, and flying).

If it was not for YouTube I would never have seen this beautiful film. I live in America, and they did not show it here. If you would like to watch it again it is split up into nice parts on YouTube. Part one can be found here:

i too saw the ad for it last week and thought i would like it then missed it when it was on. does anybody know if it is repeated? or can you say which channel it was on so i can maybe look on the net for it.
if you have virgin TV it is repeated on catch up TV for the next week
she was amazing.i was speechless at her brilliant performance.have yet to tell her.she was so nervous b4 the show prem and reviews..but now she's v happy and pleased.i loved how she transforms fr girl 2 woman in tht show.the script was average but EmW did a lovely job as Pauline...i like the story and plot too...d way she said her name 'pauline fossil' and she said 'i need to become an actress' wow,so sureal...it was like flashback 7 yrs 4 her...
i watched it

i thought it was really good

you know the little red haired actress?

shes in sense and senseability soon

i thought emma watson was really good

=)
I thought it was so good! What I especially liked was, you know that point at which Pauline is being really spoilt, and slamming doors and stuff? I just wanted to slap her - which to me was so good, because the fact that she was able to play a character so different to Hermione is brilliant! and all the other actors were so good - loved emilia fox and victoria wood.

Can I start ballet?

I'm 15 and I want to start pointe ballet am I too late?

I did jazz dancing for 6 years, I only stopped last year.

Can I start ballet?theatre

Of course you can still do ballet! I've been dancing for 12 years and it is so much fun! But it will take a few years untill you will be able to go en pointe because you really need to strenghen your feet and ankles. Find a good studio and talk with the director about what you want to do, they might let you take a few extra ballet classes so you can catch up! Have fun!

Can I start ballet?opera music opera theater

You're never too late to start something new. Go for it.
no you're not too late. you should know the techniques of basic ballet by now, so go for it!
You cannot start pointe ballet unless you have had at the very least 2 years of basic BALLET training, not any other dance. You're not too late to learn, but you won't be able to go en pointe very soon, you'll have to take many classes first. But since you are older, you can move en pointe quicker, because your bones aren't as tender and delicate.

Good luck!
Yes, you should be able to.

In order to do pointe, you must have some dance background. Jazz should have helped you with your footwork, flexibility and stamina, which a strong dancer requires. Normally, dancers start pointe work after around 7 years of classical ballet training(:

Get hold of a theraband. Theraband exercise bands are effective, low-cost fitness products designed for rehab and strength training. User progress is easily seen as progression through multiple band resistance colors. The creation of positive and negative muscle force during use also provides for coordinated muscle development, especially at the foot area.
No you can do it! Personally it wasent my thing but lots of other girls like it!
u need 2-3 years of ballet minnimum and about 8 months of training for pointe on flats just doing ankle exercises and strengthing ur feet before u can do pointe....if u dont major injuries will come!

What do i wear to a ballet class?

i'm 15 and recently signed up for a ballet class at the college on a whim, except i was wondering what do i wear for ballet class?

What do i wear to a ballet class?the grand theater

If it's a class offered by the college's dance program (as in, this is university level and these people are majoring in dance), then go for the whole ballet look: white or pink tights, black leotard, hair in a bun and ballet flats. The way to tell this will be: are you already an accomplished dancer?

If it's an open to the community type thing (which seems much more likely), wear comfortable clothing (loose enough that you can move, but not baggy enough to obscure your body) and probably sneakers (which you might end up taking off so you can dance in your socks or bare feet).

You can get in touch with the instructor somehow (check the website or enrollment booklet or whatever, and see what he or she would prefer, or you can wait until the first class. They'll tell you what they want then, and where you can buy the stuff (if they want you to wear flats and a leotard). No one will expect you to be perfect for the first class.

leotard

.... every dance studio and ballet teacher are different they should let you know how to dress for class.
In a beginner beginner class its perfectly acceptable to wear loose fitting clothing and socks or ballet flats.

I prefer at any level to wear a leotard and tights with flats.

On your first day see what the other girls are wearing. I would suggest the top outfit I suggested and buy the leotard if everyone else is wearing one.

Good Luck.

www.discountdance.com is the best for dance clothes btw
a bun, pink tights, and black leotard! and pink ballet shoes
if it's a serious ballet class, tights, leotard, shorts, maybe a tight fitting tank and ballet shoes.

if it's an informal class, dance pants, a tank and some ballet shoes would be just fine.

have fun!
Capezio black leotard and capizio ballet pink tights. Thats what I wear.
you should wear a leotard and tights, you can also wear a ballet skirt over the leotard to feel more comfortable. Ballet shoes are a must, but be sure to get the right size, not too big or too small!
If you want to go fashionably, it's very popular to wear black tights with shorts or a skirt over them %26amp; also leggings.

Also a tank is good 'cause you might get hot.

But it's never wrong to wear pe clothes.

It's just better to have fitted clothing so you won't trip over your feet or anything.
If you're a guy, wear a dance belt %26amp; nothing else.
The teacher should be able to see the line of your body, so loose fitting clothes are not recommended. Usually black leotard and pink tights are protocol, but since it is a college coarse, sometimes the teachers are cool and will let you wear capri dance pants or something. They will let you know though on the first day... It should be on the syllabus.

You should contact a couple of ballet schools in your area. They will advise you on which class is appropriate.
sometimes places like the YMCA or your local gym teaches basic ballet technique. once you've mastered that, you can go to take classes at your local ballet school, or if you want you can start classes at ballet school, but probably you might have some classmates that are younger than you
I would say about......... ummmm like 5-6 or maybe even but if you really want to take the class go right a head!
it depends on the studio. the studio i have goes by color. talk to the studio. u may not even b under one of those categories since u have never danced before. u really gotta call the studio and ask.
Are you talking about exam classes?

I think you would be a Grade 3/4 RAD
