If you're interested, then take the class. Like people said, you're not likely to become a professional, but other than that, age is no reason to not dance. There are fifty-year-olds at my studio who enjoy it.

Anyway, dance helps instill self-confidence. Trust me on this, as I've seen lots of very shy girls become more self-assured after getting dance training. In fact, that's actually why a lot of little girls in my studio are taking classes - because they were shy and their mothers wanted them to feel better about themselves. Ballet is also very good for cross-training and just generally getting into shape, burning fat, gaining flexibility and strength, etc. There are quite a few professional dancers with very muscular thighs, so think of it this way - if your thighs are muscular, you have an advantage over the average beginner right away. If you've got a lot of fat, you'll burn it quickly and develop muscle there instead. You don't have to be tiny to do ballet - I'm not and I manage fine.

So, like I said: if you're interested, take the class. There's really no reason not to.

yeah go for it. if you want to try it then do. dont worry abuot your thighs, ballet helps them get really nicely toned. as for your self confidence, dont worry. you'll develop some. if you want to try it out first, you could look for a studio near you and ask them about drop in classes. that way you can try them out before you start taking classes regularly
don't listen to the last answer. Many ballerinas are not rail thin, and plus, I don't think you're planning on going pro, right? If you want to do ballet, go for it. I'm in a class with girls of all shapes and ages. No one will tease you if you're all just starting out. I'm probably the same shape you are, biggish thighs but a petite body. It's absolutely fine. If ballet it what you want to do, try it.
Live your dreams!

Without question prosue your interest in Ballet if that's what you dream, but if you only like the looks of a dancer's physique, then check out The Ballet Body Method (details stolen from their website).

It was developed for achieving the look of a dancer's physique. The beauty of a dancer's physique is the length and gracefullness in every dimension of the body. This method elongates and lengthens the muscles of the body revealing a beautiful, long and lean physique.

The Ballet Body Method is inspired by pilates, yoga, and dance. The exercises achieve the elongated body by stretching and contracting the muscles simulataneously. This method will restore a sense of gracefullness and agility by working the body from the core.

The Ballet Body Method is easy to follow and doesn鈥檛 require years of dance training. This workout challenges the body without complicated choreography or foot work.

Definitely! You should go for it. I'm 15 and I've been dancing for 12 years, and I've seen my share of late-starters. It'll take you a while to catch up to your age group but you should definitely try it if you want to. But you have to be really sure you want to because it's a full commitment and it takes a lot of time. Also, your 'huge' thighs shouldn't be any reason to stop you. A lot of good dancers have bigger thighs because they're muscular, so you could use them to your advantage.
Just go for it. The benefits of ballet are many. You'll be graceful and confident enough. Never mind if you have huge thighs. Some famous dancers before were plump and big but they were still famous dancers.
If you want to do it, go for it! Here's a quote I go by for my dancing:

"If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. If you can dream it, you can become it."
Absolutely go for it... what have you got to lose?...nothing and look what you can gain - grace, line, toned muscles and maybe reshape your self with diet and dance...
go ahead and dance. dont be shy about your figure, no one in the dance class will care, because chances are they will have big thighs too from dancing all the time! if you want to try it nothing should get in your way!
If it is an interest of yours, of course you should pursue it. It's not rational to aspire to enter ballet with the physique of a ballerina, either. The physique and skill will develop as you begin to adjust to the training regime and later decide to take it seriously and stick to it.
